People need to hop off Islam for a second and realize he’s making a reasonable decision here. Topuria beat 2 of the GOATs back to back, yes, but didn’t clean out 145 and had a single title defense. He vacated it because of weight issues. He is an unranked contender now. Islam’s not having him start from the ground up. Win one title eliminator fight and you’re good, but the LW division is so stacked that everyone feels disrespected having to fight Topuria next

Three weeks ago Charles did an interview with a Brazillian media guy, Laerte Viana. When asked about Topuria he said that his priority is to fight for the belts (BMF and Lightweight). But also mentioned that he is an athlete and employee of the UFC, if this was the only way and the UFC matched his expectations (money, strategies and other things), he would fight Topuria. "I am not in search of a guy, I am in search of a title". He said. This is from Feb 27th, a recent interview. Although I could be wrong if Chael's statement is true and Charles changed his opinion on the possible fight. Wanted to add this in consideration since I am Brazillian and saw the interview of Laerte with Charles.

Everyone seems to forget Ilia fought at 155lb already before. He got cracked with the nastiest head kick to the face, but Ilia got back up and finished the fight without making it to the judges.

I see pure sense here. Don't get me wrong I am a certified Dagi hater, but I do happen to like Islam. That being said I do believe this is a lose / lose situation for Islam, if he fights Ilia with no wins at Lw and loses then its "Islam lost to a Fw" but if he beats him its "Islam has no lw legacy, he only beat another fw" Him turning down this fight is the right choice; If Ilia beats a top LW he becomes more of a challenge for the belt, and adds more hype plus it adds more context to the title fight. If Ilia does that and then beats Islam hes probably one of the greatest OAT, but if Islam beats him at that stage, it can't be said he's just a FW, he also cements himself as one of the GOATs. Ilia absolutely doesn't deserve it now, he vacated and moved up, he needs to prove himself at LW, that would add more hype and integrity to the title fight

Justin Gaethje vs Islam Makhachev is a disgrace to this sport. Makhachev is almost 34 now, he’ll probably stay in the lightweight division for at most 1 or 2 more fights. And you're telling me you want to use one of these two fights to give an unfair title shot to a 37-year-old who’s already been choked out twice in title fights? When you have young killers like Ilia and Arman who deserve to fight for the title. It's downright embarrassing.

Funny how no one ever discusses the fact that well before all this Ilia turned down Arman. Arman effed up and lost his title shot, so Charles is the obvious next in line. Meanwhile, Ilia vs Arman is the no-brainer #1 contenders match, but since Ilia was too much or a prima donna to take the fight, now the division is all twisted up..
