I had a friend who flew the F15. He said it was really easy to fly. What the involved training was for was how to shoot the F15.

Incorrect info here. Su-47 Berkut was originally designated S-37, which itself "grew" from an S-32 design. The works on these aircraft had  nothing to do with Gen-5 fighter, but instead were aimed at creating a new plane for USSRs aircraft carriers of the time. FSW looked VERY promising for a carrier plane which is why it was chosen. But the FSW problems also shown up, and instead Sukhoi made the T-10K, that became the Su-33. S37 prototype was basically ready by then, and was instead used as a technology demonstrator. It was never intended for Gen-5, and it was the media that created that myth

US had  similar program Grumman X-29 in 1984. First x wing plane came from Nazi germany. Ju-287.
