45:29 my eyes widened even before the zoom. Best Editing front runner right there.
Oh yay!!! It’s half a Little Gold Men reunion with Katey and Joanna!
These 3 together was great. 👍
Only the power of Sean Fennessey can reunite two ex-Little Gold Men hosts (Katey Rich and Joanna Robinson) for this awards-centric episode.
I adored Anora and expect to love the Brutalist. But why aren’t Dune and Challengers higher in the Oscar race? Those are both in my top 3 this year and I consider both to be “prestige” films. Queer lost steam so I don’t see why Challengers can’t build some hype. Just very strange to me how you can even consider Glad 2 when these movies exist🤷🏼♂️ Anora feels like this years Anatomy of a Fall for me
Sing Sing is the BEST MOVIE of the year and deserves nominations in most categories. The movie was shot on 16 mm film, in 19 days, with a very small crew. The DP, Pat Scola should be nominated for an Oscar for cinematography because the visual look, the lighting, the film choice, all created the naturalistic atmosphere to tell the story. Accompanied with Bryce Dessner's score that sells the beautiful scenes and intimate facial expressions. And kudos to the director, Greg Kwedar, who allowed dialogue to be ad-libbed at times, which created the emotional essence throughout the film that tugs at your heart. The cast deserves best ensemble because 90% of the cast are the formerly incarcerated men that participated in the RTA theater program while in Sing Sing and that authenticity shines. And what can you say about Coleman Domingo.... he deserves the Oscar this year, his performance is perfectly understated, and he allows the other men to shine because this is their story. Well Done!! Also, Clarence Maclin and Paul Raci both deserve best supporting nominations. Their performances tie the strings that pull the film to its brilliance. Best movie overall in a very long time and well worth the emotional journey.
As a longtime fan of both Joanna and Katey and especially of their work together on Little Gold Men, this has truly made my day.
The constant comparison of Dune Part 2 to Two Towers not getting Oscar noms is BAFFLING. I’m sorry but this is the second part to a book??? Not a trilogy. I don’t care if Dune Messiah comes after, that doesn’t change that Part 2 was the finale to the first Dune film, and having read the books Messiah is not a Return of the King type book, its not the end of a saga, it doesn’t tie up loose ends from the first book. Part 2 FINISHED the story of Part 1 its as easy as that. I guess we can assume Oscar voters to be morons but i dont understand why Big Picture keeps dismissing Dune Part 2 purely on this basis. Also LOTR’s films were all made at once, Dune Messiah won’t even come out for 5 years at the minimum
Little Gold Men mini reunion!!!! Love it!
Im scared of getting my hopes up about Anora 😬 But if Conclave wins I wont be mad
The idea of Wicked being an Oscar frontrunner because of the Election is one of the silliest things ive heard on this pod.
Would love to have Katey and Joanna on the podcast more often during awards season.
What a lovely sit that was. Would not object if this lineup was to repeat
Challengers still getting no respect in the top 10 smh. itll be there mark my words
For Best Actress I have: Gascon Jolie Madison Kidman Jean-Baptiste Just on the outside I have: Erivo Moore Ronan Torres Swinton This is a bloodbath.
What do w have to do to get some from the ringer to discuss wicked who A) likes musicals B) has seen the stage show C) understands this isn’t a “hopefull story”
No one could ever convince me that Emilia Perez should be higher in the Best Picture Rankings than Dune 2. Patently absurd. The Gender Reassignment Clinic number alone should disqualify it.
Besides Zoe Saldana performance, Emilia Perez was atrocious. If it wins BP, we have officially lost the plot and the Oscars is fucked
Not y'all attributing Moonlight's Best Picture win to Trump's first election victory
