One type of item I’ve noticed ends up unworn is anything that requires complicated donning, so to speak: shoes with long laces that have to be tied just so around the ankle, Victorian style blouses with 50 teeny buttons, a dress where you need another person to zip you up or help you get out of it... I want the process of getting dressed to be smooth and casual, not a Broadway production requiring three backstage dressers.

@amandalh60

Love your view about boring basics. So agree all basics are not equal! Have learned to hold out for the perfect item rather than purchase the "close" items. Hard lesson learned after multiple black pant and tshirt purchases! My perfect items are modern classic with a twist.

@justinegrdr

I live in a place where the summer is very hot and winter very cold - there is no "in-between". I have a lot of fall-pieces like light sweaters and jackets, but with your video I realize I never wear them because we go from like 35 degrees to 5 in less than a month !
(Sorry for my english it is not my native language but I'm happy I understood almost all your video !)

@highfiberknits

Brilliant episode! Such a fresh perspective, because I feel like so many of these videos can be redundant in the sense that they’re about not buying trendy pieces, someone else’s capsule wardrobe essentials, or the fantasy self. Most of these were so new to me!
I especially love the shoe tip about the sole coming over the upper, since I walk and talk transit every day. Although I do gravitate toward heritage styles like the blundstone and converse, I feel like it’s a treat each time I put them on.

@trangn6564

That's a really good point about matching fabric types with the style and the season in which you would wear it, you said it very well. Thanks for pointing it out.

@ericawong51

This is one of the most useful fashion videos I've come across. All the points are so unique and I haven't heard any other videos touched upon before!

@alamedadanceparty

I like this really well thought out analysis of what works for you vs not. I feel like I don’t have this deep of a grasp yet on this for my own wardrobe.

@fredryka

Completely agree, the type of fabric should match the season of the year. Making a top with wool doesn't make much sense. The funny thing is that some time ago, I was discussing this with someone else. Great content!

@vampiresca

The sole thing has been a life changer, great advice!! I also walk everywhere and noticed my flattered flats wore so quick.. and it was exactly the sole thing

@kimberlyperrotis8962

I agree with all of these. I bought a medium bag (from Dooney and Burke) that I loved the look of, not realizing that it’s so very heavy, at least 5-6 lbs. empty. I rarely choose it, it just is too uncomfortable and the narrow strap cuts into my shoulder, even empty. That bag is the reason I rarely choose cross-bodies anymore, the straps are thin, so any weight at all is uncomfortable. It’s hard to find traditional shoulder bags with wider straps these days, brands love those “convertible” cross-body ones, but I don’t.

@seafarer_

Every single one of these was useful to me! As someone who’s been harped on about quality clothes since I was a kid, I found a lot of these new and gave me a lightbulb moment.

@annief412

The way you said "This is the shoe for someone who never walks" -- managed to be non-judgemental and a slay. Love it.

@dchen8874

I agree with some of these but for the chunky knitwear and heavy jackets, I do need those lol. As a Canadian, winter goes on for half a year, so chunky knitwear is very fitting and cozy for homewear while heavy jackets are good for the cold and to block the wind.

@garrett8357

Such a good video. So true about why statement pieces and basic pieces needing to be perfect. I personally love unlined wool coats because I like the relaxed flowy movement, but I think that's a pretty niche opinion.

@DevinaHeriyanto

It's always a good day when you upload a new video! These are all some great points that deep down we know but often forget haha. Thank you, Helen!

@krlgch

I have a 100% cashmere coat that I thrifted and I LOVE how it’s so light yet keeps me very warm, and it drapes in a really nice way

@lynnfox8376

Really good advice. I need to stop buying safe boring pieces and find pieces that have interest but are not statement.

@BeeGirl316

10:59 those were my go to shoes in the late 90s. Great for dancing. I didn’t drive at the time, and thought they did just fine in public transportation

@raicharttanishq

The variety of textures in the :yt:eastlisa :yt: pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.

@ceasarsaran8573

If you lived where it snowed a lot, you would understand why heavier lug soles are what you want and need.
