Paris Olympic organisers have apologised over a segment in the opening ceremony on July 26, 2024, that Catholic groups and French bishops have condemned as making a “mockery of Christianity”. Criticism focused on a parade scene involving dancers, drag queens and a DJ in poses that recalled depictions of the Last Supper, the final meal Jesus is said to have taken with his apostles. But the event organisers and creative director Thomas Jolly, who choreographed the show, said there was no intent to cause any offence.
