When Paths Meet is born of a desire to use the language of music to arrive at a singular unity underlying the complex diversity of the world of creation. When Paths Meet is an exploration. It is a celebration. The traditional instruments heard here come from lands stretching from China to Spain. The lyrics come from mystical writings from 12th century Germany and Moorish Spain to 16th century Azerbaijan, to 21st century US and UK. When Paths Meet brings together Sami Yusuf and his ensemble, Cappella Amsterdam, and the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra. The voice of each group is distinct; each articulates its own ethos and emanates the artistic fragrance of its own world. In Sami Yusuf’s compositions, their unique voices rise and fall, giving way to one another, until an understanding at the deepest level is reached. Beauty and the love that pervades it is indivisible, however varied and intricate their expressions. To realize that is to arrive at the place of meeting.
