Every year in March, there are two days of commemoration for the Tibetan struggle for freedom: the Tibetan National Uprising Day of March 10, and the Tibetan Women's Uprising Demonstration of March 12, both which took place in Lhasa in 1959. The Tibetan Women's Association (TWA) and its worldwide regional branches commemorate Tibetan Women's Uprising Day across the free world, marking the historical uprising against China's crackdown in Tibet, which resulted in many deaths and imprisonments. Kunleng host Tsering Kyi invites Pema Dechen, a former TWA member and leader, who has also worked as journalist for over 20 years, to discuss the historical significance and the contributions of Tibetan women to the freedom struggle. The discussion will also review Tibetan women's political activism.
