10-24-2024 "Shake, Rattle And Roll!" Giant Pine Cone On The Move
After a few days without a nest visit, Jackie must have decided a date night was needed. She came in early on Thursday evening through the back porch and immediately got to work cleaning up the nest. She paused briefly as she looked up and saw her beloved Shadow circling the nest tree. Perhaps he was showing off a bit for Jackie, and also their many fans who were watching, as he soared by the lake and then arrived through the front porch.
As they began working together, Jackie decided to make a few attempts to move the new giant gentle Jefferey pine cone décor she brought in a few days prior. She picked it up in her beak a few times, but as much as she tried, it just wouldn't stay where she put it. It kept rolling back down to her muddy feet, so she made one more attempt at the challenge before her. She picked it up again, shook it around and wrestled with it trying to break it down. Still no luck! Since it clearly wasn't cooperating, she decided to leave it and move on to rearrange some sticks instead.
While they worked together, each one paused, as necessary, to keep a watchful eye on the area around the nest. Shadow was busy behind Jackie rearranging some of the older stick furniture when he noticed she may have abandoned the new pine cone. Seizing the opportunity to step in to help, he moved in next to her and picked it up and set it aside where it stayed. Shadow tried to lean some small sticks up next it so it would stay put while Jackie worked on some larger sticks behind him.
Suddenly, Jackie turned around and stepped right where Shadow was working, which caused him to lose his footing and he slipped backwards a bit. He didn't seem happy about that, but being the loving mate he is, he obliged and gave Jackie a quick little beaky kiss anyway… then he bumped her back just for fun! After all, he was just trying to help! During their nest work sessions, don't be fooled as beaky kissing, bumping around and moving sticks together is all part of their natural bonding process.
Although Shadow seemed a bit more focused than Jackie to get the nest in order, he was done for the day, and ready to head out. His talons stuck again in some sticky sticks but he managed to climb up to the back porch over the many layers and bundles of crazy sticks, probably feeling a little bit overwhelmed by it all. He must have figured there's still plenty of time to get this bed of sticks in order! He made a clean exit out the back porch as he headed to one of their favorite Roost Trees.
Jackie's head bobbed about as she tracked him closely. She looked down and checked her toes as usual, then took a couple more glances around the nest before moving up to the back porch. She may have knocked a few sticks out with her as she took off to go cuddle up with Shadow for the night. Their bodies formed a beautiful heart shape as they spent the night cuddled up together on the upper branch of their favorite roost tree.
The new nesting season has begun and we look forward to the next several months to be quite exciting! Thank you all for joining us and as always for your generous and loving support.
