Newcastle University's research project to enhance kidney transplant success not only seeks to enhance the accuracy of kidney viability assessment, but is also fundamental to the establishment of reconditioning centres to elevate non-transplantable organs into viable organs for transplantation.

This will result in donated kidneys being used more efficiently, cutting down on wasted organs and resulting in significant cost savings for healthcare systems.

More importantly, by enhancing the accuracy of kidney viability assessments and facilitating the transplantation of previously non-viable organs, this research will improve the outcomes of kidney disease patients, and offer new hope to individuals awaiting life-saving kidney transplants.
