Beverly Chase, VP, Current Programming & Development and EP & Showrunner, VICE on Showtime, is an award-winning television news executive with over two decades of experience in the industry. Working across a variety of projects including scripted, non-scripted, and feature and short-form documentaries, Chase has produced and edited hundreds of hours of television.
Previously a producer and editor at NBC News for 15 years, Beverly has worked on critically-acclaimed programs including Nightly News, TODAY, Dateline, Saturday Night Live, as well as working as an Olympics feature editor on location in Torino, Vancouver, and Beijing. She’s produced and edited for high-profile projects in NBC’s news division, including fast-turn breaking news specials ranging from natural disasters such as the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the Indian Ocean Tsunami, to international crises like the global recession, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Beverly has also worked on productions for PBS, History, A&E, Discovery, MTV, and a number of feature documentary projects.
At VICE, Beverly has produced across newsmagazine series “VICE” on HBO, “Investigations by VICE” on Hulu, and most-recently, “VICE” on Showtime. As executive producer and showrunner of “VICE” on Showtime, she serves as the lead creative voice behind each episode, overseeing the series vision and leading the show’s process from pitch through final episode delivery. Her work has earned 6 Primetime Emmy® nominations, 11 News and Documentary Emmy® wins, 2 Peabodys and 2 duPont Awards. She also recently received a Gracie award for Outstanding Nonfiction Showrunner from the Alliance for Women in Media.
Gianna Toboni is a multi-award-winning senior correspondent and producer with more than 50 films that have aired on HBO, Showtime, Hulu and VICE. Toboni was one of the first journalists to interview ISIS fighters on the frontlines in Iraq. She’s covered escalating cartel violence and political corruption in Mexico, investigated non-consensual, unneeded gynecologic surgeries on migrant women in ICE custody, embedded with two Saudi sisters as they escaped forced marriages in their country’s archaic guardianship system, interviewed the founder of Hamas in Gaza during the 2014 Palestinian uprising, tracked down Nigerian oil pirates at their illegal refineries, and interviewed an American death row inmate hours before his scheduled execution. She's been on the forefront of the most pressing national debates, from gun control and mass shootings to transgender rights and religious freedom, and interviewed top lawmakers from Senator Elizabeth Warren to Senator Cory Booker.
Toboni has gone deep into war zones, cartel territories and slums, to find the women and mothers who bear the brunt of each crisis. She has filmed in more than 30 countries around the world – Somalia, Iraq, Israel, Palestine, Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, Cuba, Mexico, Russia, Japan, Philippines, to name a few – but feels that the strongest stories are often hidden in the United States. The common theme in each of her films is the humanity at the center of them, and the push for change.
Toboni was honored on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list for Media. She was named a TEDx Speaker on truth and storytelling. Toboni was a Peabody Award finalist for her film on Student Debt, has won Emmy, GLAAD, Gracie and Front Page Awards, and a Webby Award for Best Documentary Series.
Recorded live via Zoom.
