Retired U.S. Air Force Fighter Pilot and author Colonel Richard “Dick” Toliver joined Arizona Horizon to discuss his book, Black Wings Over Arizona. The book chronicles the history of 19 documented Tuskegee Airmen with ties to Arizona and highlights their contributions beyond aviation, including their roles as civil rights activists, educators, and community leaders. It also sheds light on the heroism of 855 African American women who served in WWII by clearing a massive backlog of mail for American troops in Europe. Inspired by his own experience at the Tuskegee Institute, Colonel Toliver’s book preserves the legacy of these trailblazers.
