Rancheria Creek

201 9________

Whitewater run through the redwood and oak forest of Mendocino County’s Anderson Valley with a few of our foul weather friends.

Rancheria Creek is one of the primary tributaries of the Navarro River. For this run, we put in at Mountain View Road and took out at the Greenwood Bridge which is just below Hendy Woods. The run is 14 miles of wilderness class I and class II river running. The run is best done with an experienced whitewater team who are prepared to scout for strainers and fix problems as they occur. For a boatable flow, significant rainfall in the Navarro River Watershed is necessary. Typically this is the day after a large winter rain. Very little sun gets into the canyon so water and air are usually cold so drysuits and warm winter boating gear are a necessity.

If you get the right flow and have the right team, it is a magical run through the North Coast Coniferous Forest. Waterfalls stream out of the redwoods and down the mossy fern lined banks around every bend.
